Gail Phaneuf's short play "IF A BALL COULD DREAM" has been chosen to be a part of the Sixth Annual Outworks Festival at Louisiana State University in March 2011. Playwrights from around the country submitted their work to the festival, which features new plays about “gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer themes.” Phaneuf's play deals with a ten year old girl who is questioning her gender and decides to discuss it candidly with one of her close friends. The short play is a glimpse into how quickly the honesty, openness and innocence of youth can turn shameful and cause people who feel "different" to close down and retreat into a closeted and fearful place.
